Losing the mobile network connection

I keep losing the mobile network connection, I have an HTC One V, and can't remove the battery, only the sim card, which I remove for a few minutes whenever this happens. Sometimes it comes back on its own, or even just after a restart, but this seems to happen at least once a week lately, and I can't place/receive calls either when this happens. I have another phone (same model) on this account which doesn't seem to have these issues. HELP!

Settings, wireless and networks, mobile network

Make sure network selection is set to automatic.

Try the other sim in this phone. If the issues go away you need a new sim card.

Yes, my network is set to automatic. Yesterday removing the SD card seemed to work, but today it happened again... not sure what else to try, I'll try using the other sim card tonight, see what happens.
