I have an old LG optimus black of mine that I forgot the pattern unlock to so when it asks me to log in with gmail and PW it denies me access and says its incorrect; I have the right email and password but it wont let me in. Curious if I go get a koodoo sim card and activate it will it be able to connect to the network and let me in? Is my issue that it has no active sim card? I do not wanna waste my money since i get a new phone in 2 weeks. Thanks for the input

No, the SIM card won't unlock the phone's password. Double check you're really putting in the correct info - it is case sensitive.

Are you connected to your wifi connection that the phone connected to before you were locked out?

If you have nothing important on the phone you could always attempted to do a master reset. These instructions I found online (and added a bit to the end as the appeared incomplete).

1. With the phone turned off, hold the Home and Volume Down button and keep pressing them, then
2. Press and hold the Power button too until the device turns on

*added* you should come to a menu that has options such as reboot device and master reset and such, navigate using the volume buttons and use the power button as ok to select the master reset option.

The method above does not work for the optimus black, which does not have a physical home button. Try the following:
Do EXACTLY the following:
_download and install LGmobile support tool from the lg website
_Execute LGmobile support tool and click on "install usb drivers" and follow onscreen instructions.
_then go to the "customer support" tab and select "recovery phone"
_once you have gone through the installation process, turn your phone off.
_Press simultaneously Volume Down + "G" Button, while holding them down press and hold Power button. When the lg logo appears, release the Power button but maintain the Volume Down + "G" Button untill you see a green android briefly appear.
Your LG p970 is now reset.

I haven't tested this myself, but it's the most likely solution I've found.

Thanks for clarifying. I assumed it would work if you were holding the capacitive button but had no way of testing.

This is exactly what is happening with my Optimus . . .it is denying my Gmail and password, and I have double checked, even reset password with Gmail acct to be sure of case sensitivity. Doesn't seem right that I have to lose everything just because it doesn't want to accept my Gmail info that I set up just for the damn phone to begin with!!! WHY??
