Okay so I purchased an iPhone 4 s from the guy and the provider was koodoo, but he said it was not locked, but we keep getting the message when we put a virgin SIM card in the SIM card is invalid, help. Could this phone be locked to koodoo?

If you're getting that message than it's definitely locked. You'll need to unlock it. If it's a Koodo iPhone and you're a customer, you can request an unlock from customer service. It's $35. After they do it, you need to sync it with iTunes and test it with another provider SIM again to make sure its unlocked.

There is no need to sync with iTunes. Put in a SIM card other than the original provider's SIM, and it will complete the unlocking process.

Actually it does. A customer came in our store after he called customer service to unlock his iPhone from Bell to use with chatr but he got the invalid SIM message. Once I backed up his phone and restored it through iTunes, the unlock worked.

Well, you need a Wi-Fi connection (mobile data sometimes works, sometimes doesn't), since the phone needs to contact Apple's servers. I have unlocked a few iPhones before, and there never was any need to use iTunes.

If you have a SIM card from a carrier other than your current carrier, follow these steps:

  1. Remove your SIM card and insert the new SIM card.

  2. Complete the setup process.

If you don't have another SIM card you can use, follow these steps to complete the process:

  1. Back up your iPhone.

  2. When you have a backup, erase your iPhone.

  3. Restore your iPhone from the backup you just made.

its going to cost more then $35 as you will have to through 3rd party to get it unlocked, as its not active with Telus anymore.
