When I signed up with Koodo, I got a long-distance plan which precludes me from having any additional charges. So even though none of the numbers available had my local area exchange, it wasn't an issue. After the fact, I discovered if anyone local calls me who doesn't have some long distance plan on their phone, THEY actually get charged long distance fees because my cell # isn't local. They could be in the house next door! Does anyone know if it's possible and/or how to get a local area #?

Sounds like you actually got assigned a number thats long distance to your actual local calling area. You can do this from self-serve. Go to phone -> change number and look for your city/town in the dropdown menu and it wi give you a selection of numbers to choose from. If you're having troubles doing this, you can call Koodo at *611 from your Koodo phone but they will charge you a fee to change your number since it can be done on self-serve.

Hope this helps! :)
