I purchased an LG G6 a few months ago from a store called SF Wireless in Toronto. For a while I did not attempt to update the phone but when I finally tried I got the following message: "Software Update - Your phone is not registered yet." I've registered my phone with LG already but I still get this message. Any assistance would be appreciated! Thanks.

If you've registered the device with LG support it can take up to 30 days for them to put it into thr system from what I've read a couple places.
Try and get an active SIM from the carrier it was originally sold for is the other fix from what I'm reading

I spoke to LG Support today and they said that my IMEI number I provided was not in their database meaning one of two things, either the phone was sold to me refurbished or it was rooted.

Also I've tried another Kodoo sim in my phone and it did not resolve the issue.

Hope there is another potential fix. Thanks.

@Tanin:
As I mentioned earlier, It could be a problem of LG. Why did they tell you that your phone was rooted when it wasn't. I would ask LG to have a warranty replacement as they sold you a phone that didn't have a proper IMEI.

LG said the phone was rooted? Where do you see that? LG said it could be refurbished or rooted and I dont think they would do anything for her. Where she bought it is where she should start.

@Mats: He/She said a LG agent said "it was a refurbished or rooted" , you also restated it.

he/she bought at SF Wireless, http://www.sf-wireless.net/index.html it seems to be an independent cellphone shop (they didn't say they are an authorized dealer of Koodo or LG). How did you expect them to fix the software updating part? she of course can go back, but I doubted they could do anything.

When you buy refurb or from bulk sellers, it can be a crapshoot because software updates for all mfgrs are pretty well issued by the original selling provider. Google may provide the Android fixes but they are handed off to the original phone vendor (Koodo, AT&T etc, not LG or Samsung) who is responsible for their custom firmware and apps, then ultimate distribution.

Any time you look at offers on eBay and Amazon, they specify who the original carrier was, because that's where your updates will come from. I use a T-Mobile unlocked LG G3 on Koodo and from time to time I get updates to wifi calling and Voice over LTE which Koodo does not support. And of course, if Koodo does implement these, there's no guarantee that T-Mobile client is going to work with them.

I also don't need a T-Mobile SIM to get updates: they work over wifi.
