Some phones have better signal than others. Which phone do you have now? Do others have the same issue with the same phone? Does this happen everywhere or only certain locations?

A network reset may help. Go to: Settings > Backup and reset - scroll down to and tap Reset network settings and follow the prompts. Antenna design varies from one phone to the next and some phone cases, (if applicable) can sometimes attenuate or reduce the received signal.

If your not satisfied with the phones' performance, you can exchange it for another G5, go with a different brand or get a full refund. You have 15 days from the date of purchase to do this.

If what Rikkster says doesn't help you can also see if its a Sim card issue (possible) by swappijg it into another phone to see if the problem follows.

You can mess around with your settings a bit as well.
At home I get about -107db (signal strength) while using gsm/wcdma/lte. This allows me to use LTE. When i connect to gsm/wcdma auto i get a much better signal strength of -91db. This allows me to use 4G.

It could be possible that your old phone didnt support LTE and therefore only connected via wcdma in which you have a closer tower giving you a better signal.

Ah yes, thanks for the catch. I tested the speeds and it is indeed running at 3G UMTS speeds.

The local tower to my neighbourhood shows only 3 bars even when within a few hundred metres of it. Signal strength varies between phones, and installations.
