Usually by this time today, my battery is only depleted to 70%. But right now, it's at 15%! It was at 100% 8 hours ago.
A few friends have expressed the same problem to me a few minutes ago: one with the same phone, the other with a Samsung.
When looking at the Battery Usage Settings menu, it shows that Facebook and Facebook Messenger have used a cumulative 54% of the battery today.

One of the tasks that consumes lots on Facebook is the autoload / autoplay function of videos. Check your settings in Facebook to ensure they are turned off.

I would either uninstall facebook and use their mobile website.  Or update the app if there is an update available.  Or rollback to a previous working version.

The issue is with facebook (who is normally a battery suck anyways).  There is not much more you can do aside from deciding not to use facebook

Keep in mind that they fixed the bug in FB messenger not the actual FB app it's self so if you continue to see battery drain issues that is why and you'll still have to wait for them to address the issue of the App it's self..

I think it says later on in the article that the issue was server-side. The app itself was never broken: it should only need a restart.
My battery drain rate seems to be back to normal.
