Why does the Koodo Caribbean travel package not include Belize? I'm travelling there in December, it would be very convenient to be able to use my phone on a package.

Does it actually include it but it's just not listed in the list of countries for some reason?

It's not listed but if you click on 'traveling outside of these locations' from the drop down menu you'll see that it's a zone 2 rating. $2.50/min for voice, $10 for data and 60 cents for texts.

I did see that. I was hoping the Caribbean package would include Belize despite it not being shown, though. And that also doesn't indicate why it is excluded, when seemingly every other country in the region is included except for Belize.

For instance, if incoming text messages are also charged at 60 cents, which is not specified either way, then taking my phone to Belize could prove very expensive even if I don't send any texts myself.

Maybe Belize isn't a popular destination. Although it's a pretty good rate, Bell charges you as zone 3 on this and they're more expensive. Since there's no package it'd be for both incoming and outgoing

Belize is not part of the Caribbean folks. It's in Central America. :-)

Alright, so what about going the other way? Is there a way to prevent my phone from receiving or sending texts and phone calls, so that nobody can send me a dozen text messages and cost me money? Will unsubscribing from the Pay Per Use International Long Distance add-on accomplish this?

Only way to do this is putting your phone in airlplane mode. This will block calls and SMS, It's disabling your phones features

Does it leave me wifi? I can use apps and hotel wifi to text if wifi is left open to me

No it won't, it turns off the phone's connection to data networks that includes Wifi as well as cellular. you'll need to disable it and connect to wifi when you want to use wifi

Which will then cause all yet-unreceived text messages to download en masse.

Just take out your SIM card. Simple as that. Your phone will still work perfectly if you have wi-fi connection. Try it out at home before you leave. You'll see.just like an iPod phones work in wi-fi.
