Koodo VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling

So, here’s something cool: Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE is available for Koodo customers with the Android LG V30!  We’re adding additional devices soon, so if you’re not an Android LG V30 user, hang tight!

What is Wi-Fi Calling?


Wi-Fi calling lets you call and message (text and multimedia) over Wi-Fi when you have little or no network coverage. You can use it to call and message just like you do on the regular network; it’ll work even if the person you’re calling or texting isn’t using Wi-Fi Calling. For now the only phone that can use Wi-Fi Calling is the Android LG V30, but we’ll be adding more devices soon!

Do I have to pay more for using Wi-Fi Calling?

No, you do not have to pay more for using Wi-Fi calling! Usage will be billed in accordance to the customer’s rate plan.

Just a heads up: Wi-Fi Calling is an extension of the mobile service but not a replacement for mobile or landline service. You need to make sure that Wi-Fi Calling is enabled and Wi-Fi is on and connected for it to work correctly.

What is VoLTE (Voice over LTE)?

VoLTE is the next step in wireless calling and it comes with some awesome benefits! Koodo customers with a compatible phone will be able to make and receive calls over the Koodo LTE network instead of the HSPA network. Right now, only the Android LG V30 can use this feature, but there will be more devices added soon.

Most Koodo customers with devices that are enabled with VoLTE will be able to take advantage of it automatically once your device has been updated with the latest software. All your calls will be carried over to the Koodo LTE network as long as you’re in a VoLTE-capable LTE coverage area.

What are the benefits of VoLTE?

-        Simultaneous voice and data use
-        Better sound quality when calling another VoLTE-enabled device
-        Improved battery life
-        Access to next generation services as they become available (i.e. Video over LTE)

Do I have to pay more for using VoLTE?

No. All your voice usage will be billed according to your Koodo plan and you will not be using any of your monthly data allowance.
