I was just wondering what the process is to unlock a koodo iphone. I am looking to buy one off crsigslist/kijiji but i have heard only the original owner can unlock the device when they call into koodo? (Has something to do with protecting against theft) is this correct?

Not necessarily. Koodo will only unlock their own iPhones. So if it's originally from Rogers, Bell, etc. Then it won't work.

What you'd do is call in to customer service and give them the IMEI # and request an unlock. This costs $50. Once they say it's done, you'll have to plug it into your computer and restore the phone through iTunes. Then try putting in your SIM card to see if it worked.

You're better off trying to purchase one that's locked to Telus or Koodo (either one will work) or is already unlocked. Trying to buy one from another carrier and unlocking it just creates extra work for yourself and costs $50, too.
