Just phoned Koodo Sunridge in Calgary to ask about cost of iPhone 5S with med tab. Was told "$275". I said Virgin nis $225...and before I could ask if Koodo would match, Koodo rep interjected with: "Go there, then!" and hung up. Is this normal??

They should send the names of their top 5 prospects to TaracFone in the US.

Price of anything is not equal to the eventual cost. You have to be able to figure out your typical usage and then make a decision on the overall annual cost.

Then, armed with those figures, you can deal with any telemarketing jerks from any companies who are working from srcipts and do the best deals for yourself.

You maybe able price match groceries, but most other things likely not. Did you ever try to ask your gas attendant if they were willing to match to price with their competitor across the street? Their answer will likely be as resounding no. That koodo store rep likely needs better training though.
