hi, im in Montreal and going to France for a week, and I was wondering:
1- is there a plan that would allow me to use my phone in France? I would like to be able to at least text back to Montreal... and if yes how much is the plan per month?
2- if not, how much will it cost me per text from France to Montreal?
3- will I be charged for texts I receive in France on my Koodo phone? (which , once again, is a montreal phone.)
thank you for your response :)

Hi Kelly,

1. Alas, no... and the roaming fees are brutal, see 2
2. France is in zone 1 (see http://help.koodomobile.com/coverage-...) which means $1.50 per minute to call/be called, $5 per MB data (yikes!) and $0.60 to receive or send a text message.
3. Yes, see 2

You could consider buying a local SIM card in France (if your phone is unlocked), or try something like http://www.piranha-mobile.com/ or http://www.truphone.com/row/ while there.

Alternatively, you can switch your phone to airplane mode (or take out the SIM card altogether) and use WiFi only with Whatsapp or Hangouts text to avoid bill shock.

Have a great time in France!

Edit oh oh wait! I think Koodo recently changed roaming incoming texts to free! Need someone to confirm this - in that case 3 would be "NO" :)
thank you so much for this detailed answer you re a true mobile master! ;)
