I have a Koodo Account that I'd like to keep active, but transfer the number associated with the account to a different provider. Is this possible?

My gut feeling is no... it's not, but just in case.

Yes you can. Make sure your Koodo account stays active. Contact your new provider and give them the account # and pin # for your Koodo account. Once this is done your account at Koodo will automatically suspend and cancel at the end of your billing cycle. Any tab balance that is left will be billed on the final bill.

Interesting. I was under the assumption that porting was sort of a 'final cancellation' notice to your old carrier. That once you ported, the account couldn't be saved.

But you are saying that within the finial billing period (within 30 days notice?) I can simply re-activate the account with a new number, keeping my plan, positive tab-credit, etc?

You got it by porting out is exactly like a cancellation with your older provider. So you can only have #1 per 1 cell phone carrier. Depending when your billing cycle ends that's when the cancellation will take effect. As for your plan you lose that since you're going elsewhere, you lose the postive tab credit unfortinately.

But I want to keep my service with Koodo active... I don't want to cancel. I just want to take my NUMBER elsewhere, but keep my plan/service active with Koodo, I'd happily take a new number on my account.

I don't want to cancel. I just want to take the number.

Not possible. Phone # follows the account its tied to.

What you can do, then, is add a line to your account and then port out your first #.

Right. I thought so. The phone # is also tied to the plan (and tab credit) as well. I could only activate a new 'in-market' plan with a new number. Cheers, thanks.

If the number is tied to the account and they can't be separated, then so be it - I answered my own question in my first reply, as I thought this was the case.

So you want to port your number to a different provider. Also you want to keep your plan /account with Koodo stay active.
You can't do it unfortunately. Your account will be canceled automatically as soon as you porting number is done.

The request doesn't cancel your account right away. But you won't have an account with your service provider as soon as your number was ported out, right?

The account suspends with the initial provider then cancels out end of the billing cycle. Porting cell phone #'s only take 2-3 hours.

Ok so keep your Koodo account active. As per previous post, you can only have 1 # per cell phone carrier. So you'll have to activate a 2nd line getting assigned a completely different telephone #.

:)
You mentioned that you have a positive tab. How much tab do you have?
You could use that tab to purchase a new phone and move to a different service too.

I've got about $95 to play with. Might pick-up a Moto G on the cheap.

If you want your account active with Koodo but have your current number active with another provider, then I believe that what you should do is create another line on your koodo account - then you call the other provider that you want your current number with and have them port over the number

So that you do not get double billed (or double billed that much) the best thing to do would be to wait until near the end of your billing cycle - please keep in mind that it usually takes up to 2.5 hours to port a number from cell to cell - BUT sometimes there are issues in the port so you would want to speak with the porting department to make sure that it does go through the same day that you want it to.
