Someone who is potentially buying my old Koodo phone is saying I would have to pay to have my Koodo contract switched over to their network provider in order for them to be able to use the phone. It's it as simple as me unlocking the phone which would make it so that their SIM card works in the phone? No need for contract switching?

A tab is like the contract. However If you pay to unlock the phone then Anyone can use the phone with their own SIM card regardless if you are on contract or not.

However if you sell the phone, you will still be responsible for your own monthly plan and the tab

The tab is similar to a contract, but really it was us loaning you money towards getting a phone, so if you cancel, we are just asking that you pay back the money left over on the tab (the money that you borrowed). No early termination fees, no cancellation fees, etc...

Unlocking the phone through Koodo costs $35, and the phone needs to have been on the plan for at least 90 days, and the account has to be active and in good standing (ie. not delinquent and not cancelled/suspended)

Unless the definition of contract has changed, the tab is a contract through and through lol. But a nicer contract ;)

All u have to do is hand them the phone and tell them to have it unlocked. There is no need to switch contracts

Tell them that you're willing to unlock it if they pay the fee.
