Is Koodo's Moto G Play the Dual Sim Variant?

I got a Moto G Play yesterday, and I expected the model number to either be XT1607 or XT1609, since those are the two listed on Motorola's Canadian site (

But both on the box and in the phone's settings, the model number is listed as XT1601. According to this page (, this is the Moto G Play's dual sim variant. It this correct?

I'm concerned my phone will have trouble on Koodo's/Telus' network, since dual sim phones are rarely sold in Canada, so they aren't designed for our networks. I checked the specs for the XT1607 (—the model I expected to get—and there are several differences in the cellular bands it has versus the XT1601. Is my concern unfounded? And would I have any trouble if I tried to use my Moto G Play on any other Canadian network (after getting it unlocked, of course)?

I know the second sim slot is also the micro SD slot. I've used micro SD cards in the past, but I'm wondering if there's any difference in using one in a multi-purpose slot. Is there anything I should know before I put a micro SD card into this phone?

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

Where did you get this device?

It's missing the 800mhz band on the UMTS spectrum so you likely will get spotty cell service.

It does have B4 LTE so you'll have decent service anywhere LTE is available

I got it from my local Koodo shop. I asked for a Moto G Play and they gave me an XT1601.

According to the spec sheets I linked to above, neither the XT1601 nor the XT1607 has UMTS800. But the XT1601 is missing the XT1607's CDMA and some of its LTE bands.

Will the XT1601 work with koodo and bell? dual sim?  What bands are the major providers using?  how did you determine it'll have spotty cell service.?
