Is it possible my iPhone is unlocked?

Just curious. I purchased my iPhone 6plus through Koodo two years ago. My screen cracked and I had Apple Care. I brought it to an Apple Store and they replaced the actual phone - not the screen. They popped in my sim and it was good to go. Does this mean my phone is actually unlocked? I'm just curious because I'm looking at purchasing a new iPhone through Koodo and if I'm selling this one I'd like to know if it's unlocked. How can I tell?

it should not be unlocked, the Apple has a supply of carrier locked phones that lock to the first sim inserted into it.

You can test by inserting the sim of another carrier to check

It could mean the new phone they gave you was unlocked and not the phone they replaced.

The replacement phone inherits the lock state of the phone being replaced. If the original was locked to Koodo at the time of replacement, the new phone is locked to Koodo as well.

Also note that, if it has previously been unlocked, then Apple gave you an unlocked phone.

Even if it is not an Apple Store? It is a certified apple reseller..

Service Providers (Certified Apple stores) are required to meet Apple’s standards at all times with regard to service so the answer would most likely be yes.

I think Apple store sells unlocked phones. Thats why you pay retail. Do they ever ask you which carrier you go with?

They do sell unlocked phones. What people are saying above is that if you bring in a locked phone for repair and get a replacement, that replacement will be locked to your carrier.

They also sell on-contract phones that lock to a carrier for customers not wanting to pay the outright price.

From my understanding, To buy an unlocked phone from Apple, you must order it online.  The Apple Store retail locations will not sell you an unlock iphone

I think that this is in the US, Dennis.
