Is iphone 5s model NE296LL/A from Koodo support both gsm/cdma or gsm only? I'm confused why my iphone's model is different.

Hi Olcan, I just looked it up and it seems to be gsm/cdma.

I'm going to request Koodo Mobile for factory unlock maybe next week but now, I'm trying to choose which iPhone firmware file should I use to update to iOS 8.1.2. There are two, Should I use?

8.1.2 (5s GSM): iPhone6,1_8.1.2_12B440_Restore.ipsw or

8.1.2 (5s GSM+CDMA): iPhone6,2_8.1.2_12B440_Restore.ipsw

So, you're restoring a jailbroken phone. If you purchased that phone from Koodo (or any other carrier in Canada), use the 1st IPSW file. Only Verizon/Sprint iPhones south of the border are GSM/CDMA hybrids.

Also, the NE296LL/A isn't the model number. There are the various 5S model numbers:

•A1533 or A1457 or A1530: iPhone 5s (GSM model)
•A1533 or A1453: iPhone 5s (CDMA model)
•A1518 or A1528 or A1530: iPhone 5s (GSM model China)

Note how Apple has a same model number for both a GSM and a CDMA model. This is taken from their website.
