Hi. I really want an iphone 5 from koodo. I definately wont be paying the full price. So a contract is my only option. The required iPhone plans are absolutely horrible. $60 for 1000 minutes and only 300mb. That is outrageous. I have a plan with telus that has 1gb , 10 favourite numbers, and 200 minutes. Its only $50. I hope koodo improves their iphone plans or i wont be switching anytime soon.

Is it a contract plan that includes a major discount on an iPhone that you have through Telus? Because that might be the difference. Koodo's normal plans are rather competitive otherwise, but there's no iPhone attached.

Every plan of 50$ and more can be used with a 3 years contract and a major discount on every phone TELUS sell.

BTW, TELUS even offered for 65$ 6gb with something like 500 mins (I don't really care about the minutes, as long as it has 100 day mins and unlimited evenings and weekends.

Koodo just did make their iPhone plans (which I agree are terrible) better, I don't expect them to improve them again that quickly.

That being said if a contract is your only option at least, since Telus owns Koodo, the company name on the bill is really the only difference. You'll still get access to the same towers and will experience no different network coverage.

Why are you stuck on the contract iphone plans? It sounds like your reluctance to pay up front but save in the long run that causes you the headache. The plan that you claim to have is not on their site so it may have been something you got through their loyalty team for not leaving.

As of right now telus is offering the iphone 5 on a 3 year contract for $99. There is a minimum requirement of a $50 plan to get this. None of their current $50 plans come with any significant data. The best they have right now that is somewhat comparable with the koodo is the $63 promotional plan although. If you have to keep that plan during the 3 years you will end up paying $2,268

Koodo's plan is $45 (witn 1gb data) and over 3 years that would be $1,600 or $668 less telus. That said you's have to pay almost full price for the phone with koodo. That's $570 with the tab.

Long story short you save more with koodo. To the tune of $100. Add to that the lower overage costs etc. and the savings grow even higher.

You make good points but even then keep in mind that Promo 63 is only valid on m2m or 2 year terms. Neither of which you could do without buying the iPhone 5 outright anyway.

I know this only proves your point more (as you need to get an even more expensive plan for a decent amount of data).

Her plan that she has now would be an older discontinued plan they offered until about 2 months ago, she would be able to keep it going forward with the new iPhone.

You got it.....if you take promotional plans out of the picture koodo wins all the time.

64re even more a winner with the 65$ that they give to almost everyone who ask it through retention.

You can always buy a lightly used iPhone 5 on Kijiji. I paid $500 (and it's mint) for one with 10 months of warranty left. Someone here in London listed one for $350, and obviously it was sold within minutes.

If you buy the iPhone at full price, you can get any plan not only the "iPhone plans". Plus, you will get the 10% off with a phone without an outstanding tab balance...

I always buy my phones full price and Koodo tries to redirect you subtly towards no contract plans to avoid being stuck in a contract by having attractive plans. In the end you have the liberty to change your plan at all time and you avoid being stuck on a 50$ min plan for 3 years if you were to lose your phone.
