Hi Charles,

As long as the sim card you have will fit it will be a simple swap of your sim card into the new phone. If it requires a new sim you just have to activate the new card and it will have your number assigned to it and you wouldn't have to worry about changing your plan or losing it. Also with an unlocked device you can qualify for the 10% discount off your monthly plan as well (if you're not already taking advantage of it).

Hope that helps answer your question :)

You can also go to a Koodo store, and they'll do all the set up for you if you're unsure as to how. I did that when I bought my Nexus, and just had to pay for the SIM.
So do I have to unlock the phone to put a new sim card in

Only if it is not already unlocked or you are changing from another carrier to the Telus / Koodo / Public Mobile family.
