Hello Mike,

What happens when you restart the phone?

Hi Mike, try toggling airplane mode and if that doesn't work, reset your network settings

Settings > general> reset > reset network settings

This also erases saved wifi networks so you'll have to input those again later.

Still no data when restarting phone. Have tried airplane mode and network reset. When I'm in Settings>Cellular Data Options, Cellular Data Network APN setting s is not there. Phone shows 3G not LTE.

I had exactly the same problem and talked with Apple Support.
- take out SIM card and put it back in
- hold down power button and volume down button at the same time until you see Apple logo, then let go
It seems working but I need to wait and see for a few hours to make sure it doesn't go back to 3G or No Connection

I did the same thing as Puzz ler.. and it worked.. kept the sim out for about an hour though just so Koodo can do their thing (In a previous try, it didn’t work when taking SIM card out and popping it back in right away) . After the hour, popped the SIM card in and the LTE showed up.

Hi Jason. Glad you got it working. Something is the iOS update must have messed with the network settings.

Unfortunately Puzz ler's solution didn't work for me.

I went by both a Koodo kiosk and the Apple Store today.

Koodo tried to blame it on iOS 11 not being compatible with the iPhone 5 – which I knew was not likely the culprit, since there have been reports of the same issue with newer phones. She hadn't heard of the issue and said it wasn't in the technical updates employees have access to.

The Apple tech said I'd already done all the right troubleshooting steps and recommended a restore as the next step. He said he hadn't seen any recent reports of the issue, so it doesn't seem widespread, in any case. Whenever he has seen the issue in the past, it always seems to be with prepaid SIMs (which I have).

He also tried my Koodo SIM in two other iPhones (one running iOS 10 and one with iOS 11) and the data worked fine in both.

I moved to another network before a week. Then I have fetching problem on my iPhone cellular data  (Mobile Data) not working. But I found a online guide about the cellular data not working and it worked for me. : https://www.howtoisolve.com/fix-iphone-cellular-data-not-working/

I had used a secondary sim in my phone. It was Freedompop. Somehow that profile was blocking my phone from connecting to LTE and data. I deleted that profile and after a couple of minutes LTE showed up and data is working. So if you've used your phone on a secondary provider (ie Knowroaming, Roam Mobility, Freedompop, etc.) try and delete that profile and see if that helps.

Mike! That’s EXACTLY what happened to me. A roaming sim I’d used on holiday still had the VPN profile. As soon as I deleted it my cellular data started working. YIPPEE

The same thing is happening to me following iOS 11 update on an iPhone 5s

So far I've tried:

  • toggling airplane mode
  • restarting phone
  • toggling cellular data
  • checking for any stray VPN profiles (there are none)
  • resetting network settings
Any other suggestions welcome.

I see 3G as well, even though "enable LTE" is selected.

Thanks, didn't see that post. So it's not a SIM issue, it's most likely a phone issue. Still under warranty? I guess not so you're not eligible for a new replacement from Apple... Did you try calling Koodo and asking them to reset network from their end?

I think it's a case of Apple taking automation too far. It's definitely a phone issue. My wife hasn't updated yet (iOS 10) and her Settings>Cellular>Cellular Data Options>Cellular Data Network page has more settings that I do.

I only have Personal Hotspot on this page.

While she has:
Cellular Data
Visual Voicemail
MMS
Personal Hotspot

Try resetting these settings on the Cellular Data Network page and then restarting (soft reset) with the sim card out.

Restart with a soft reset:
Hold down power button, when slide to power off shows up, keep the power button down and hold the home button for about 10 seconds until you see the apple startup logo.
No worries, you're not deleting anything on your phone.

The soft reset is a simple restart or reboot. Which is useful for when some of the apps aren’t responding properly. It’s also necessary if your phone isn’t able to get important functions to work, such as shutting down the phone by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button.

Pop the sim back in and cross your fingers.

Jason Quach - thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately it didn't work.

Robert - I've contacted Koodo about resetting the network from their end, waiting to hear back. I would be surprised if this is the issue since the SIM worked fine in two other phones, but at this point willing to give almost anything a try.

Thank you both for your suggestions!

Good luck. I guess I got lucky that it connected again.

Generally it's not a good idea to update iOS in the first week cause of all the bugs.
I jumped the gun on this one also.

Usually it takes a week or 2 for Apple to release a 'bug fix' update such as 11.0.1, if your phone still doesn't work by then, I'd update it as soon as it gets released.

Hi to All,

Here it is again. Whenever IOS is updated on Apple Devices so many issues (real or imagined) happen. Battery drains faster, iPhones start to slow down (especially older models) issues with lagging, data and network connection problems and so on and on.

There are a lot of good advices on this forum but honestly Anyone has even slightest hope that this particular transition is going to be any different than previous. Although it is one of the major updates in years.

I mean, without any glitches.

You could downgrade to ios10.3.3. I don't think the struggle is worth. However, you need to make sure you have a backup of your phone in ios 10.3.3 before. iphone with ios10x cannot use ios11 backup.

On a whim I just logged into my Koodo prepaid account and all my boosters are missing, including data. They were there when I checked earlier this week (checking remaining data was the first thing I wanted to rule out) so I'm going to call Koodo to find out what's going on since they never answered my email.

iP5s - identical issue. SIM removing (waiting one hour, which is irrelevant), restarting, resetting etc don't work. What a crap (11.0.0 and 11.0.1).

Downgrade has been completed :) I strongly recommend downgrade iTUNES too to 12.6.x. One trick: you have to replace "iTunes Library.itl" file for one before iTunes upgrade. In my case I've copied "iTunes Library 2017-09-23.itl" than renamed it.

Everything works fine and smoooth :)

Downgrade procedure:
1) Delete the Developer Beta Profile (if exits)
2) Turn off find my iPhone on phone
3) Download the 10.3.3 ipsw file for your iphone from https://ipsw.me
4) Open iTunes and connect the USB cable to your computer.
5) Now connect the lightning cable to your phone and as soon as you connect the cable press and hold the Home button to enter the recovery mode.
6) Hold down the Shift (Windows) & option (Mac) Key and click update.
7) Select the ipsw file which we downloaded earlier and hit Update.
8) The process will take approx 10-15 minutes.
9) Welcome back to iOS 10.3.3

I fixed my issue! I did an experiment by putting another person's SIM card (different provider - Videotron) in my iPhone - data worked fine. A clever friend who helped me with the experiment thought my APN profile is probably corrupted and that maybe if I could find a way to manually edit the Koodo APN profile, that would fix it.

I didn't find a way to edit it, but I did find a site called http://m.apnchanger.org - loaded it on my phone (using Wifi). I choose Koodo from the list of APN profiles and tried to install it.

Got an error that I needed to remove an old profile instead. I really wish I'd taken a screenshot of it, but it was something like "nprnetgear.com" - something I didn't recognize and that wasn't visible in my APN settings screen. I clicked the "Remove" link it led me to in Settings, and deleted it.

Boom - data now works, I didn't even have to install the Koodo profile again. End of saga.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in here - hopefully this helps someone else.

You can replace SIM with diff GSM provider only when you haven't SIMLOCK. It means, that you have iPhone X (GLOBAL). Persons like me, with SIMLOCK cannot perform this operation :(

P.S. Data settings reset didn't help at all.

Maciej - replacing the SIM with my friend's was just an experiment to see if the problem was tied to my SIM. I put my own SIM back right after. Sorry to hear http://m.apnchanger.org didn't work for you. :(

"Sounds like a reset of your network settings would have accomplished this. Hmmmm....."

Actually I tried it multiple times too and nothing ever changed. My thoughts are there are settings hidden from the user in iOS and Kathryn had to go through alternative methods to get them reset/changes.

Good job Kathryn!!
