iPhone 5 won't dial in us

I have a talk and text plan while I'm in the US. My phone shows full bars and the network I'm connected to in the States, but when I dial a number, I cannot connect. It shows that I've dialled the number but nothing happens. Now I've paid for a package that I can't use - appreciate any suggestions as I've tried to get a US number instead but don't have a SSN to get a phone and plan here for all the times I travel.

Do you have the international voice and data roaming add ons enabled on your account?

You don't need a SSN to get a prepaid SIM in the US.

To get a US number, you'd have to get service with a US provider. AT&T and T-Mobile should be able to provide a SIM card type service (just like Koodo). There may be cheaper roaming SIM options (like FreedomPop, but that manages the talk & text via an app and data will be 3G only), but since you're planning on being there for the long haul, better to grab service with a provider that has LTE network coverage.

For your iPhone have you restarted the device? Press and hold power and home until the screen goes blank and the device will restart.

Is your bill fully paid?

When you move to the USA be sure Check out Cricket wireless.. They are owned by AT&T, they use the same network although LTE speeds are capped at 8mbps.

And it's prepaid with no SSN needed.

You can even get a plan that allows you to roam free in Canada and Mexico. You must use 50% of your services in the USA however so it's no good for a full time Canadian.
