Jailbreaking causes instabilities and glitchy things to happen, and cell service could be one of them. Or it could just be a faulty SIM card. Can you test it in another phone?

I found the answer! I had to downgrade firmware to 5.13.04

i would prefer for my phone to have been unlocked via koodo so i wouldnt have to worry about jailbreaking, but i was advised by Koodo to use an unlocking service like the mall kiosk around the corner from koodo :(

Yeah, Koodo can't unlock iPhones that weren't purchased from them and Koodo never sold the 3GS.

The guy at the mall gave you a crappy, un-permanent unlock. There are many websites that would have done a full factory unlock for $40-50
