hello my blackberry bold 9700 i try using the internet at home on my own wifi and it doesnt let me it says i need a data plan y is this if i have my own wifi?

The only time it should say that you need a data plan is when your trying to use data not wifi. Did you go into your settings and configure your wifi connection?

Even on the current Bold 9900,

Blackberry in their infinite wisdom has deemed it so that you CANNOT access wifi without having data services on.

There is an (annoying) workaround:

Switch on wifi, and switch off your network (e.g. go into airplane mode) - which means no calls or texts

Sorry, dude. I am sure they thought it was a good idea - but it isn't.

Again, this is Blackberry's stupidity - nothing to do with Koodo (they don't make the phones)

Apparently, you might be able to turn mobile network off, connect to Wifi, then turn mobile network back on and it should stay on wifi.

But it's not an excuse for the utter stupidity of it all.
