Hello,

can someone please confirm that calls made to USA using International Long Distance Saver is 20 cents rather than 5 cents.

The rate finder tool suggests 20 cents but I was always under the impression that is is 5 cents
Thank you

You're right, it used to be 5 cents but since late March the prices changed.

For a full pricing on the LD Saver add-on please check the link below.

but WAIT.
If you had the add-on before March 19th your price should stay the same as before.

this is from another client who faced the same situation:
"Indeed, we introduced a new Long Distance Saver add-on offering different rates than the one you had in your account. Nevertheless, customers who opted for this add-on prior to March 19th, 2018 were migrated in error to the new add-on.  This situation has therefore been caused by our mistake and we would like to offer our most sincere apologies. The add-on offering you the rate of $0.05/minute for calls placed to the U.K. would have been reinstated in your account shortly. "

I strongly recommend you call them and state your case so that the restore your old add-on.

I'm a big fan of Fongo. Seems to be better quality voice. Text is not fee tho unlike text now. But the minute rates are really good.

A more commercial option is to sign on with a VoIP provider like Call Centric and get a US number which will appear less questionable to US responders. Calls throughout North America will cost less than a penny a minute wherever you have a wifi connection or mobile data using an app such as Voiper. If you want to go whole hog, you can even get a 1-800 number for incoming.

Your US number can de configured to simul-ring Voiper, your office and/or your Cdn cell number in case you are out of wifi range.

The VoIP Android app mentioned above is misspelled... actually Zoiper.

Bob, how useful do you find ZoiPer as a phone client? Did you need any of the in-App purchases to make it work well?

Barebones version on CallCentric works fine. Voice quality depends on internet connection. Uses your current contact list. I would say it's ideal for making outgoing calls, since the concept of long distance in North America does not exist. The number that shows up on receiver's call display is the number provided by your VoIP service, so that's the number I give out to contacts, and let the VoIP forward incoming to my cell number as well.

Incoming can be a little trickier. You have to leave wifi awake all the time, which can be an additional drain on your battery. If your VoIP calls are being directly forwarded to the same cel, there will be dueling ring tones whenever someone calls you. Call treatments with your VoIP provider can usually be set up to first ring Zoiper by the VoIP number for 10 seconds, then ring the internal cell number, or either number exclusively.

Altogether quite useful for someone who bounces around 6 area codes over the course of a year.

PS: After reading a little further on user experiences on wifi calling, the competitive nature of the dual phone connection seems to be one of the big hurdles for the providers to smooth out.

LD Saver rate for US is 20 cents per min now.
But they (Koodo) are still offering " US 1000 min" for $10/mo. I don't know your usage, but It might be easier way...?
