Hi,

Im a new koodo member. I have the samsung galaxy ace 2, my plan is $25 talk and text, 0 add ons.
The guy that helped me out said that I could go on wifi and I wouldn't be charged. He also said that there is free apps and such over google play.
There were a lot of people in line waiting for him so I didn't really get to ask a lot of questions. Im not techy at all. So here they are..
If I take pictures/videos on my phone will this use up data?
If I download free apps over wifi will this use data?
What is data?
How much will I be charged if I go over 0 mb?
What does this even mean?

I really don't want to be charged an insane amount of money if Im going over a limit with out knowing cuz Im a noob.

A destitute student noob.

Thanks for your answers.

Hi there... No worries, you will see all the answers posted here in a couple of minutes... and there are no silly questions...

If you don't want to use data, make sure it is disable on your phone (settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, disable "use packet data")...

Wifi does not have anything to do with the Koodo network, so you will not be charged for anything you do on wifi, unless you download apps, or ringtones, etc that cost $$$... If they are free, your fine...

If you use your phone to take pictures and videos, you will not be charged for that... you can always get a SD card to store music and pictures there so you save your internal memory (I think in walmart is about 8$).

Keep in mind if you disable data you wont be able to send or receive picture messages without enabling it again. You can easily turn it on or off though right on the phone. So no big deal. WiFi won't work for picture messages.

In this instance, Wi-Fi is your friend. You can do just about everything you can do with a data plan; check email, download and update apps, ringtones, themes, etc. You won't get charged a nickle if you download these things over Wi-Fi. You can even set up Google wallet to make small secure purchases for apps or other items that may cost money.

In the event you don't have access to Wi-Fi and have to use data, say 25MB worth, you'll be charged an additional $5 per month, I'll include the table below. If you're watching your money this is probably the ideal way to go.

Most newer devices, the Ace 2x included, have a built-in data monitor which will help you track data usage and warn you if you are about to exceed data usage. This feature is normally found under Settings > Data Usage.
