I have sold a Koodo phone and when they try to enter the imei # it says it is in use, what couldbe the problem?

Why would they have to enter the IMEI? You register the SIM#, not the IMEI.

Unless you're talking about a CDMA phone (no-SIM), in which case it's the ESN/MEID.

They want the IMEI so they can unlock the phone, and check that it's not blacklisted.

where are they entering the imei?

They are sending the imei to an unlocker who will send you back an unlock code

Okay but you can still get the unlock code either way with just the IMEI. It doesn't make sense that they're telling you that

That the IMEI is in use. There's nothing preventing the unlock. If you can bring that person into this discussion, maybe we can make some progress.
