SMS messages are standard text messages, MMS messages are multimedia and require data to send. Arguably they would be the more complicated and expensive to send; are you sure you have be the right way around?
If you're sure you want to send MMS instead, the simplest way to get the phone to switch modes is to attach a picture to the message.

Hello Debbie,
I'm using easy roam so I can't send SMS
Can you explain this sentence? If you have easy roam, you should be able to send SMS.

I did word my question backwards ....I can't send SMS texts or actually any texts. I received one text. I can access Internet. I haven't tried to make a phone call yet. I have "data on when roaming". I seem to have trouble with koodo every time I travel.

Hi Debbie,
Which country are you roaming now? and with which phone? As you said, you were on easyroam, it would cost no extra to make a call to test.

I would try to turn off the phone, and turn if on again. If you are texting, I would try to put the +1 in front of  the number and see if it works.

I'm roaming from Germany. I have an Android Moto G5+
I am receiving texts. When I go to text I see all my Canadian phone numbers now show a 0 in front of the area code. I tried dialling with a 1 in front and still won't send text.
After it tries to send for awhile I get the message - can't send message with Telus - error 8

Can you try to text with the "plus 1" (+1) in front of the 10 digit number? I think we need the plus (+) sign and Ignore the "0" (+1 xxx xxx xxxx)

login to self serve and check to see if your free international voice roaming add-on and free international data roaming add-on is on your add-ons page

I would try to reset network settings one more time,

If it doesn't work then checking the SMS center in your phone
Dial *#*#4636#*#*
Go to "Phone information"
go down to SMSC and check the number, it should be +16475800172

I checked my account and yes I have international data roaming and international voice roaming on my account.
I dialled the sms centre and checked my phone info - there was no number in the smsc line so I added the number suggested.
Still can't send texts. I turn off wifi and it shows I have LTE but still can't send texts

I should have all I need, but I can't send anything to Canada or to Europe. I can't even text ROAM back to 7626. Nothing is sending from my smartphone. But it is receiving everything.

Use the international format for phone numbers ie. If calling or texting Canada or US use +1 then the area code and number. The + in front of the country code is the key. Also make sure both cellular data and data roaming are turned on.

Thanks Debbie. I've done all those things. When I call a Canadian number with +1-XXX-XXX-XXXX, I'm told the number is restricted.

As per this thread the problem might be with Koodo and something they have to fix on their end.

Yes I'm able to surf the web on LTE. I can't make local German calls. I haven't been able to get a German to text me and I don't have access to another phone to test the Koodo Sim in. I'm really put out with koodo right now. I asked all the questions about easy roam and what I had to turn on on my phone for it to work. Last march before easy roam I bought the $40 plan to be able to use my Moto g in Chile....that didn't work either. I'm headed back to Chile in 10 days and at this point don't have any hope for this working either!!! Is there any other setting I should make sure is on or off?

As I said before, Easyroam HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHETHER SERVICE WORKS OR NOT. It ONLY affects billing.
Removing easyroam WILL NOT make texting work. It will make data ridiculously expensive. I agree that data would be a great deal cheaper with a local sim card, but if they switch then it doesn't make a damned bit of difference whether they remove easyroam or not, since they would no longer be using koodo's services. If they keep using data with the koodo sim, they at least have access to email, WhatsApp or Facebook messenger to communicate if they keep easyroam.

Nobody said removing easyroam would make sms work.

Since the OP hasn't replied in many hours, let's let this one breathe for a bit and see if they still need help. I think you've all provided an ample amount of info. and reasoning for why one should and shouldn't leverage Easy Roam in a similar situation.
