I'm going to be traveling after Dec 3 and need an unlocked phone, do I need to pay the unlocking fee after Dec 1st?

Considering that after Dec 1st carriers can no longer charge a fee for unlocking phones but also considering that the time I've had had the phone for by that date won't be that long given that the phone I want ships in 1-2 weeks

I think all of Koodo iPhone are unlocked now. (They haven't announced it publicly but new iphones were reported unlocked)

and No, you don't have to pay unlocking fee after Dec01.

I can also confirm the Note 8's have been unlocked (at least all that I have seen).

Why did one of you Mobile Masters here claim to have gotten a locked Note 8 from Koodo some time ago?

(That was me, whoops)...when you type in the dial code to unlock the phone it asks for an network unlock code.
When you put in a different SIM it works fine. Either I'm missing something or Samsung needs to get their stuff together. (I'm probably missing something)

Hi to All,

That is a good question. New phones indeed could be unlocked already. When I have asked recently for the sake of curiosity what is going to happen to older phones or purchased long time ago Sales People at Kiosks don't want to give definitive answers in that matter.  Let's wait and be optimistically cautious.

Telus sub-brand Koodo is now waiving the unlock fee for all devices, according to an internal document obtained by MobileSyrup.

Thank you all very much for your replies, I went ahead and ordered one and hoping for the best. This industry wide change to waive unlocking fees is going to be very well welcomed!

I always had anxiety about being locked in to a 2 year contract and not being able to use my phone with a local SIM when I travel abroad but the simpler approach koodo took with the tab being openly separated from the plan price already solved half my issues!

Koodo is now unlocking devices for free early. So you can unlock it whenever you want.
The phone you get may even already been unlocked when you get it.
