if I purchase the sony experia z from bell would I be able to get a plan with koodo?

According to Koodo's web site, it doesn't look compatible with Koodo...

I wouldn't trust that list, doesn't look updated.

There is no reason to believe it wouldn't work. It supports the same frequency bands as Koodo does.

So long as it's unlocked, it should work just fine.

I agree it should work perfectly fine as I've used many phones from Bell on Koodo. Koodo/Telus & Bell use the exact same towers they share towers so there's no reason for them not to work. The only issues that could possibly arise is if the phone has a bug that causes the APN to reset back to the default Bell APN when turning the phone off and on again. (this was an issue in the Galaxy S3 ICS 4.0 that some ran into) Chances are it won't be an issue though.

*Keep in mind that you would need to get the phone unlocked before you could use it on Koodo as it will be locked to Bells network.*

Also keep in mind if there's updates Bell pushes through its network you might end up not getting them.
Thankfully though, Sony usually makes its updates also available via its PC suite,
