Will airtime be deducted when a call is forwarded to another number?

If the call was forwarded to a land line, for example.

Just your regular airtime, Lucy. So if you have unlimited time slots, it will not use airtime at all, and it will take only the minutes you forward calls at other times :)

Just to clarify: the call forwarding included in the standard plans is pay per use. You would be charged $0.35/minute for each call forwarded. To avoid the pay per use charge you would need to have the call forwarding add on for $3/month.

Well Timo ! I went through the post and found out that some posters on that post seem to be confused, I picked up my phone, called Koodo care and they confimed that yes in fact CFWD to overseas numbers is not permitted and CFWD add-ons cannot be added to a plan that already includes Call Forwarding, they also confirmed that if customer adds it he will be charged incorrectly.

Hi Robert, with the $3 Call Forward feature, airtime will apply so it will depend on the plan (if it includes Evenings & Weekends) and on the time the call was forwarded (daytime or during the Evenings & Weekends) :)

Hey Tony, without the feature, you would be charged $0.35 per minute and the airtime will be deducted when applicable. If you plan on forwarding a lot of calls during the weekdays, you may want to change your plan to have more airtime and to add the $3 feature :)

Robert is right! If you don't want to be deducted airtime for forwarding calls during weekdays, you should pick a plan with unlimited airtime, such as the $60 Canada-wide Data plan or the $50 Canada-wide Talk & Text plan: http://koo.do/qqOCIX

There you go TImo, also Koodo rep explained that if customers adds $3 CFWD feature all incoming calls when call is forwarded are taken directly from CFWD Bucket, no AT is taken from customer plan, which conflicts with what you see on above post

Mat, I am a koodo rep. TYLER is a koodo rep. YANNICK is a koodo rep. ALL OF US are telling you this is how it works. Apparently you spoke to the only agent at koodo who understands call forwarding.

So, what's the cheapest option to forward to an international number? As I understand it their isn't a flat rate currently for this?

I use LES.NET, I just have a DID from them, send it to a virtual PBX and then forward that to a PSTN line (any phone number) for their low per minute rate (0.011/minute in North America and varies overseas but all the rates are on their site and as good as it gets). Note that this isn't a service aimed at consumers so unless you are an old time telephone/VoIP/Networking guy like me you might find it hard to navigate their site and understand their services and how to set this up without help but there are more consumer friendly services like http://www.flynumber.com/ that claim to do the same thing and seem more consumer friendly. The catch 22 is you need to forward your cell number to your virtual number before you leave Canada (it can go to voice mail) and then when you get where you are going and get a local number (which you might not have known what it was going to be) with free or inexpensive incoming calls, you then log into their web site and do the forwarding of your virtual number to your new international from there and magically all your calls arrive overseas at a fraction of the cost of doing the conventional way.

Disclaimer: I'm not endorsing flynumber as I've never used them but they seem to have what is required to do this $2.50/minute toll bypass.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Luckily for me my degree is in Computer Science, so this is right up my alley. When I travel I currently use a combination of receiving calls on my Koodo phone, and then calling back via an unlocked phone running off a network in the country I'm in. I also routinely use Skype Unlimited World when I have reliable wifi or data. But it's just such a PITA carrying multiple phones always, so this sounds like a potentially perfect solution. Thanks for the share :)

Yes and LES.NET even accepts SMS text messages and will forward them to email, along with forwarding voice mail as .WAV files to email. Tie this together with asterisk based system in your home and if you can imagine it, you can do it. I used to have my home asterisk system programmed to just return dial tone when it saw my cell phone number coming in so my FAV 5 was converted FAV 5 billion as the calls would go out at very low VoIP rates. Now that Koodo offers nation wide calling package at a reasonable cost, I don't bother anymore but it's still convenient to walk around the world with your home phone in your pocket and not have to be concerned with high toll costs of incoming calls and for calling out, Skype-out with a USB headset is usually better call quality then any other "phone".

Signing up now. It's basically $3.50 monthly and then dirt cheap rates on whatever airtime you use, wherever you use it. Realistically, if Koodo ever got around to releasing international travel packs, this service is still far more convenient when you factor everything in.

As per what I was told "Only the talk time of incoming calls comes out of the call forwarding minute bucket." And since it's my understanding that there isn't a limit on call forwarding bucket, I should be able to receive an incoming call, have it forwarded to another number and then talk as long as I want without incurring and deduction of my incoming minutes.

Is this correct?

When the call forwarding add on is added to the account, the call forwarding minutes come out of your anytime minutes. Koodo does not use a separate call forwarding bucket. This means that if your plan is unlimited call forwarding is unlimited as well. What is less clear is whether unlimited incoming calls or unlimited evenings and weekends apply to call forwarding. I have not personally encountered this situation with customers as very few people actually make use of koodo's call forwarding services. (Maybe 1 call every 2-3 weeks when I take an average of at least 30 calls a day).

koodo is taking minutes out of CFWD bucket (if 3$ CFWD add-ons) was added, else it's 35cts/minutes for PPU CFWD, no matter what your plan is. Time the number is forwarded does not reduce bucket time.
