If the plan has unlimited Canada-wide calling, then doesn't that include unltd. evenings and weekends. Not sure if I'm missing somethings.

I've never heard weekend Canada wide. There hasn't been such thing. If it's a Canada Wide plan then it's 24/24 no matter the day!

There was back in the day with Bell, Evening and Weekend Canada Wide Calling, but during the day you had like 200 minutes for local calling. Worst plan ever.

If it's a 1 800 number(toll free), you don't get a long distance charge.
Also, you don't need to worry about your minutes since you have unlimited minutes.
So,if you can get through you are good to go.
Many companies have North america wide toll free number, but some toll free in the US doesn't accept call  from Canada.
