Hi Alana,

You can use an unlocked phone on your prepaid account and it won't effect what your plan is, so you can continue to use it as normal. What unlocked phone is it if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks, and I haven't chosen one yet. Any suggestions?

Well, if you're looking for a phone that runs Android and is unlocked, I'd suggest the Nexus 5 you can choose to purchase it from the Google Play store or you can get it from Koodo. Another place to look is probably on Kijiji as well. There have been a few people on here who go to Kijiji when looking for a cheap phone to buy as a secondary device. All in all its your decision in the end.

The one caution I would have for Kijiji is to make sure you get the phone's IMEI # then check here to make sure it has not been reported stolen. Otherwise you will end up with an expensive paperweight. No phone company will activate a phone that's on this list:

Thank you for adding that, I couldn't remember what the name of that was so I figured somebody would add that.

One other issue people are now wary of is the fact that the seller can turn around and blacklist the phone, reporting it lost or stolen right after the sale, thus rendering the phone useless. Essentially, there is no recourse as Kijiji does not offer any sort of buyer protection and sellers are not rated on reputability or positive feedback. In other words, buyer beware.

Another place I'd suggest to look for an unlocked device is on Amazon too. You can usually get a brand new phone for less than what you normally would pay anywhere else, as opposed to buying a phone that has been used. Just thought I'd add that for another place to check out :) have a good day.

If you need yet another reputable place try expansys.ca. A good place for factory unlocked phones.
