If I order a new phone online to upgrade from Samsung S3 to S8.

If I order a new phone online to upgrade from Samsung S3 to S8 how do I transfer the old phone # to the new phone.  Also how do you activate the phone once you receive it and transfer all your stuff from old to new. When does your new billing start (i.e. new plan rate and tab)?  Does the new phone come with a new SIM card and are there any activation fees?  I am wanting to purchase it online to take advantage of my old TAB credit that is larger when used online than in the store.

Thanks in advance!

Take the SIM Card out of thr old phone if it's the same size... In your case I don't believe it is. So you'll just call customer service and activate the new SIM card and then pop it into the new phone and away you go.
Transferring contacts and things just back up with Samsung and Google cloud services in the settings of your phone and then sync then when setting up the new phone and away yougo.

Will I have my old number in my new phone once the new SIM is in and activated?  Can the new SIM card be acitvated through self serve (I thought they charged for calling customer service)?  No activation fees then and is that when the new billing rates kick-in, at activation?

Yes, you will still have the same phone number.
Can't be activated through self serve but should automatically be activated before you receive it afaik. If not, calling to activate a sim card will not cost you. They only charge you for things you can do yourself (ie: plan change)

The s8 uses a smaller sim card than the s3. The s3 uses a micro sim and the s8 uses a nano sim. If you take a look at the sim card of the s3 right now and if you can push it out to become a nano sim then you don't need a new sim. You just need to transfer the nano sim to the s8.  If this was the case you will have your old number immediately. Otherwise you could probably go to a koodo store explain that you changed phones and are still on an old sim card (one that is not a triple sim) and they will probably help you. Whether they charge for that I have no idea, other carriers usually don't charge for that. But ya I would check if you have a sim that can be made into a nano sim.

Yes Koodo charges for SIM cards $15
As far as calling it's the only way to activate a SIM Card now so you won't be charged for them activating the SIM for you, your only charged for things you can do online yourself through self serve.

An alternative to Samsung/Google cloud storage services, the S8 comes with two adapters that will allow you to connect your S3 to your S8 via the supplied usb data cable. Or, if you prefer, you can transfer user content, apps and contacts, wirelessly. Download Samsung's Smart Switch mobile app to both your S3 and S8, and let the app do the rest.

Samsung Smart Switch for Mac or PC is downloaded to your computer and allows you to store a complete backup of your S8, including data stored on SD cards. If, for whatever reason, you cannot access cloud services, you will always have access to a full backup of your phone on your computer.
