Hi Dudley, you sure can just grab a prepaid SIM and plan and away you go. That is if your phone is compatible with the network here.

These are the frequencies we are currently using

4G LTE and LTE Advanced:
2100 MHz downlink and 1700 MHz uplink (AWS)
1900 MHz
700 MHz
850 MHz

HSPA: 850 MHz and 1900 MHz (UMTS)
CDMA: 850 MHz and 1900 MHz

Note that if you do not have a Canadian credit card, you will need to purchase prepaid topup vouchers from here

Where would I be able to get a SIM card? I'm flying to Vancouver Airport and then going to the Gulf Islands...

You can often find them on eBay.ca if you have no access to a Koodo store. Make sure they are for prepaid and that the size is correct. The $20 credit comes with all new account activations (as yours will be).

If you're not sure about handset compatibility, look at willmyphonework.net
Voice, text and basic data needs will be covered if your phone does 850/1900 3G.
