Go to settings and change language to your language, if it's charging problem step in to any nearest Apple store to test your battery/phone or charger if still in USA, remember you have 15 days to get an exchange from Koodo store, since you're already out of Canada USA apple stores can provide you with first assistance about phone charging until you come back to Canada.

Sounds like someone tried to restore the phone?

Like MatB said, does it charge? Is so follow his advice

If you can charge (you might need to give it a few minutes if charging from a completely dead battery), Can you slide to unlock the phone?

I think he is in this screen

If this is indeed the screen, then someone tried to restore the phone. You got no choice but to restore back to your last sync / backup.
This means you will have probably lost some data depending on the sync/backup that you have completed

Activation can be done starting from this screen using Wi-Fi or Itunes, it can't be done with Koodo SIM in USA

I read the question that she is back from her US weekend trip.

iTunes backup is preferable since backs up more stuff like text messages and pics, etc. App settings and games progress will be lost. But I guess if the phone is brand new this shouldn't be an issue losing too much data

Sorry I thought she said " I was gone out of town (US)" .. didn't say "I'm back to Canada"!

I thought "I was" meant not in US anymore.

It's ok. Jennifer will have answers for both scenarios so we got it covered :)
