When you sign up for koodo service, you are automatically assigned to a billing cycle, depending on which cycle currently has the fewest people assigned to it. When this billing cycle closes, you will be charged a prorated portion of your plan rate from the day you activated until the end of your first billing cycle, plus the month in advance for the first full month of service. This is not unusual, and is pretty much standard practice with every provider in Canada.
Yes this is normal and happens with every carrier, you pay for the time you signed up till the end of that billing cycle and for a month(the next full billing cycle) in advance. Then the next month you pay for any overages you have the month prior. It's probation and perfectly normal. You'll get your next bill in a full month from the day you got your last one now.
