Hi Jessica, you'll need to pay off your tab owing to upgrade to a new phone from Koodo. Did you happen to get the accident insurance that you pay each month for on top of you plan and tab when you purchased your phone?

No accidental insurance, but there is a first for everything I guess! not too often you hear about a phone falling in a fire

Yeah it would be comical if it wasn't so horrible... I feel for your loss. Another option is just to grab a cheap prepaid phone from the store, Telus sometimes has nice offers. At least you can be reached in case of an emergency!

If money is tight and you just need a phone for emergencies, you can buy a used phone on Kijiji and a replacement sim from Koodo. You can continue on your current plan and gradually pay off the tab until you decide on a full upgrade.

If you are buying off kijiji, make sure the phone is not stolen by checking the IMEI

Jessica, I believe that you're in luck. LG has a great out of warranty service option. I cracked the screen on my G5 shortly after getting it. LG charged me $180 plus tax to repair the phone. I don't know if that's still the rate for a G5, but it shouldn't be much more.

The one-time fee includes any and all repairs. Melted or not, should be covered.

Yeah, I was very pleased with their service. They didn't offer me free shipping, but I asked if it can be covered and they gave me their corporate info with Purolator so in the end it cost me nothing more than the repair fee. Got it back in no more than a week. Tracking the repair was useless, but otherwise a great experience.
