I am currently not using my phone for calls, just texting and web browsing using wifi (no data).  I'm paying way too much...i want to change my plan to a cheaper one but Koodo won't let me unless I pay my tab (I can't because it's expensive / I don't want to)...is there any way around this? I feel like I'm being ripped off and trapped in a plan that does not suit my life right now.  very unhappy customer :'(

Hello Lisa.

You need to pay your tab in order to get the new plans because they're cheaper then the older ones. Why are they cheaper you may ask? Because there's no more tab nowadays, so Kodood's contributions has been out off, but the plans have lowered. Therefore, this is why you need to pay your tab if you want to switch to Koodo's new plans.

Yeah, I did pick my plan . I've been with koodo for a while....my current situation has recently changed and for the past two months I used zero of my 200 available airtime mins. I thought then that changing my plan would make perfect sense...now I see it's not possible. I know that the only way is to do it is to pay the tab, but financially right now I can't. That'd why I don't want to do it and why I want a cheaper plan.

You can't switch to any of the new plans, however, you can switch to an old plan pre April 19th, 2015. If you go on self-serve and proceed with the change plan option, you will see a list of available plans for you and if there's one cheaper and suits your needs, you are more than welcome to switch to it without having to pay off your tab.

The cheapest old plan is $35 now.
If she has  $35 plan, she can't go lower...

@Lissie
You might have to stuck with your current plan for now. But If your situation has changed recently, it could change in better way in near future. Then you'll have option to pay off tab&switch to new plan or prepaid.

Ooo.... prepaid is a great idea if you use your plan infrequently and your best option financially in the long run.

Obviously there would be some upfront costs to pay off the tab

When did your tab start and how much is in your tab right now Lissie?

Thank you @Mayumi and @Ahmad. Really great advice. Unfortunately, Mayumi is correct. The cheapest old plan is what I have right now at $35/mo( + tax and $5 tab, I'm paying $45/mo.) I was hoping to jump on one that was $25 or $30 per mon the (I think the cheaped svalable is 30). I'll have to look into a few things and see what I can do. If I can't make it work, I'll just keep paying for now. Thanks all for your thoughts on this. Really appreciate it!! ;)

If you have a tab I thought you were able to change to one of the older plans?

If you go to self serve, do you see older plans that are different from Koodo's homepage?

What do you mean it makes no difference?  What plan do you want to get?

Sorry I wasn't specific. The old plans that are available to me are what I'm paying now. I can't get anything better/less expensive.

Yeah, unfortunately, you'll have to pay your tab. But who knows, maybe in the long run it's going to be worth it?

I think you're right @Robert. Either the tab or keep the plan for now until I can pay it off ( smaller lump sum). Then a prepaid plan, right? Is that the best option?

I think that's the best option.

Prepaid is $15 per month for unlimited texting.  Plus you can add boosters for talk and data that dont expire as long as you keep renewing your baseplan.

So if you dont use your minutes, you wont lose them

I believe the same thing, but I'm sure the newer plans are cheaper then the old ones!
