It depends. What will you use the data for? Do you have access to wifi most of the time?

How well are you at managing your apps on your phone as background updating from apps can unknowingly chew through data very quickly.

Really know very little about the apps, thanks for mentioning it as I was unaware.

If you are diligent in going through all your apps and make sure only the ones you want, are updating, then it becomes less of an issue. It also helps if you are around wifi and most of your updates to be completed via wifi.

Are you planning on using data for email, facebook, maps, streaming music or videos, etc?

I dont want to scare you away from data as it is very convenient when on the go.
Personally I would start with 500MB and monitor my usage carefully and turn off data when that limit has been reached if you want to avoid overage charges.

I think 1GB is a good amount for someone who uses data regularly when out and about. Normally I have a difficult time going over 2GB unless I am using data loose and freely.
