If i were to buy an unlocked samsung galaxy s8+ from Ebay could i just put my sim card in there and it would work or what? Can someone please explain this to me.

@boss9301: Normally, if the Samsung phone was manufactured for North American market, it should work.

However, the seller should check it for you. No one can guarantee 100% and how did you know the S8+ was unlocked?

Generally yes. Depends on the subbrand by region though. You should find out which bands it specifically supports but in general a major samsung flagship will support 3g pretty universally. The only concern might be the lte bands. You should speak with the seller about that if it's not specified in the item description.

There are 2 major technologies in use in North America: GSM and CDMA. An unlocked GSM phone originally set up for use in Canada or the US on AT&T or T-Mobile will work fine. They are typically advertised as capable of 3G 850/1900 & 4G (LTE) Band 4.

Avoid any CDMA handset set up for other networks like Verizon, Sprint or Boost. Those work at least partially on 2G, which is no longer commonly supported in Canada, but can also be 4G (LTE) capable for data.

There is no such thing as mandatory free unlocking of US phones.
