I just got the iPhone 5s, after my last phone-a Samsung s4- was stolen. Kept the same number and plan, but can't access my voicemail. Every time I click on the voicemail icon it says call failed. What should I do?

Try dialling your cellular number, which should take you to your voicemail.

Hello Erica.

You need to go into Settings > Phone and set up the good phone number in order for the VM to kick in!

Hey Erica! The voicemail icon is for users that have the visual voicemail feature (2$/month) and you don't have that feature on your account.  You can call your voicemail by holding the "1" number on your phone. Hope this clarifies things :)

EDIT: Thanks Robert, you're right.  Erica you should still have access to your voicemail by touching the VM icon even without visual voicemail. Can you try Robert's or Dfbutt's suggestion :)?

That is unfortunately wrong. On iPhone without the visual voicemail, you access the normal voicemail system

Try dialing *#5005*86# and pressing the call button. What shows up on screen?

Hello Donny.

You need to set up the number according to the procedure I posted above! Where you see "My Number" you need to make sure it's the good number.

I've got the same issue on my new iPhone SE. If I dial my own number I can reach it. But clicking the icon or holding down 1 gives me called failed. I checked my number under Settings like Robert suggested. It's the right number. What's the issue?

Iphones don't show the vm access number in the settings menu, to my knowledge they only show your phone number. Try dialing *#5005*86# and pressing the call button. What shows up on screen?

Same problem here as other posters; the icon or holding down 1 says the call failed. Moreover, if I enter the "*#5005*86#" and press the Call button, it's blank. Ergo, I believe there is no Koodo voicemail access number programmed into my new iPhone SE (bought from Koodo). Where can I find the correct number to program in myself? Thanks.

You'll have to contact koodo to get the right number since there 20-30 different possibilities. The quickest way to do so right now would be to send them a private message through facebook.

I'm curious to learn if forcing a carrier settings update would fix this?

I have the same problem as Erica. I have a new iPhone 7 and whenever I have tried using the VM button on the dial pad to access my voicemail I get the "Voicamail call failed" error. I receive the same error if I try dialing and holding "1". On my previous iPhone I could check my VM by just dialing the VM button. The only way I can access my VM is by dialling my phone number punching in every number every time.

I have tried:.

- Toggle Airplane mode
- Date & Time set to automatic
- Dial *#31#
- Restart iPhone
- Carrier Settings Update
-  Disable LTE
- Reinsert SIM card
- Update iOS

When trying #50005*86# I get: Error performing request Unknown Error"

Any ideas?

As far as the code, it should be *#5005*86#. If you leave out the * at the front it won't work. With that said, the problem is almost certainly that the phone has lost the VM number. If pulling the sim and restarting the phone has not restored it, you'll need to have koodo re-push this information to these phone. If they can confirm your account they may be able to do this based on this thread, but I would suggest contacting them directly via facebook messenger to ask them to re-push your voicemail access number. I'd ask them for the correct number at the same time, as if pushing it still doesn't update the only in the phone it's relatively easy to program the number manually once you have it.
