I have two plans, one old with less data, one brand new with more data, can I keep old phone number but use with new plan?

I have an old phone and plan that I want to give to my son. I bought a new phone with a more upgraded plan so I would like to keep the new phone with the new plan, but under my old phone number. Is this possible? My concern if I swap the SIM card is I would get the older plan with less data, and give my son the old phone with more data. I would prefer to not lose the old plan by upgrading. Both phones are Samsung. Thanks.

Hello Laurie,

You could transfer the number, but that will close your old account. So I can't think of a good solution. Maybe someone else will

Thanks. I may just take the new number but I prefer not too if there is an alternative.

It's possible, but only if you don't mind losing your old account and your new number. You would need to port out the old number to prepaid, then port it back into your new account. However you'll lose both your old account and your new number.

Thanks. I want to keep both numbers and both existing plans.

@Laurie
You can keep both numbers and existing plans but there is a problem here. Your son may have to occasionally answer phone calls from people that he doesn't know so unless you are going to one by one notify all people in phone book not to call your old number, he can by accident create some problems for you.

Obviously I don't know his age and his ability to handle phone calls intended for you.
