I've tried restarting it on my own.  As soon as I try to do anything it restarts rendering it non functional.  What else can I do?  It's just over 2 years old.

It's like it freezes then restarts.  And I can't do anything on it.  Has my phone crapped out on me?

Try performing a hard factory reset.

Yes you will lose anything you haven't backed up. You'll do the factory reset with a button combination before the phone boots up even.
You can try booting into safe mode first and see if that will allow you to use the phone long enough to back up your things and then perform a factory reset.

Your other option is to send it for repair and you'll want to wipe it before you send it for repair anyways and it will be wiped when repaired probably anyways if it is repairable.

Yes there's a way of doing a full backup (see here : https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-174234/)

No you won't get a temporary phone unless you pay extra.

Samsung Smart Switch for PC or Mac will allow you to complete a full backup of your S6 including storage or SD cards, (if applicable). Backups are saved to your computer.

There is also an app that installs on either an iPhone or Android device which is used for transferring content between two devices. The app is not needed if you're just backing up data from your phone to a computer

As for the loaner phone, visit a Koodo store with your phone and proof of purchase. If your phone is sent out for repairs, you have the option of using a loaner phone (if available) until you get yours back. A deposit is required for the loaner phone. If you can’t make it to a Koodo store, contact Koodo via Facebook or Twitter and request a Return Mailer, or request a Delayed Mailer if you live 25 km away from your nearest Koodo store.
