I have an unlocked Sony Xperia and want to use my existing SIM. I have put it in but when I try to make a call it tells me the phone is not registered on the network - but I can't do it through Change phone as it is the same SIM not a new one.

Are you sure the Xperia is compatible with Koodo - it's not an international model from Asia or Europe is it? Also, try to reboot your phone after you insert your SIM and manually search for the network. If it's the same SIM, it should work as long as the phone wants to cooperate :)

I think it's unlikely that it's incompatible on the WCDMA network, unless it's over 3 years old. Xperias tended to support a lot more bands than some other brands.

Can you text? Use internet? Have you restarted the phone?

I think Sophia's solution should work. If not, a model number would be most helpful in determining which phone you have and whether the phone is compatible with Koodo or not. There are over fifty Android devices with the Sony Xperia name. The model number can usually be found by going to: Settings > About device (or phone) - scroll down the page until you see the model number.

If you want to verify the phones' compatibility with Koodo's network, visit the site: http://willmyphonework.net/ Please keep us posted.

I verified that the phone IMEI was compatible before I inserted the SIM. Internet connected. I restarted the phone.Manually searching for the network only gives me 2EXT. Looks like I need a different phone??

The network name 2EXT sounds like the Rogers network, which runs a 2G network. You may be right on needing a different phone.

@Daphne. EXT means extended coverage, TELUS/Koodo has this too. Locked or unlocked, you should see a short list of carriers when manually searching for a network, provided you're in an area with good coverage. The existing SIM card could be at fault and a new SIM card may resolve the issue.

I don't get any other networks coming up than the EXT. Never thought of the SIM card being a problem. I will take a look. Thank you. The phone is a ST 26i

Hello Daphne :)

The Sony Xperia ST26i does not seem to be compatible with our network as it uses other frequency bands (900MHz / 2100MHz) and our network uses 850 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies. That's probably why you only see EXT. for the Extended Coverage. For more information, please click here: http://koo.do/29xhCAf

You're welcome Daphne.

Definitely a new phone AND a new SIM card because the Sony Xperia ST26i is not compatible with Koodo's network. The majority of phones that Koodo carries use either a microSIM or a nanoSIM card. The ST26i takes a miniSIM card which is no longer available through Koodo.

If you have any questions about your new phone, we're always here to help.
