If the phone has a SIM card slot and if it is unlocked, it should be able to work theoretically. Which Samsung model is it?

Take a look at willmyphonework.net making sure you have the exact model.

Verizon phones are a strange kettle of fish since their main voice network is/was CDMA, no longer really supported in Canada, but then upgraded with some SIM capabilities. The prepaid phones for any carrier are not noted for being very feature-laden or easily transferable.

If it's unlocked, and it's convenient for you, drop by a Koodo booth and get it checked out with a store SIM. Data may not work on 3G.

thank you so much! Found an immediate answer to my question on that site, unfortunately not a positive one but it did save me a lot of time.

Also even if CDMA technology were still a mainstay of the Telus/Bell network, they locked out any non Telus or non Bell sold phones on their networks.

Only the few newest phones from Verizon don't have voice locked to cdma networks but it'll get better with time.
