The cost to unlock through Koodo is $35. To purchase the unlock code just log into your self serve account and choose to request and unlock and you will be sent a code. When you recieve the code simply put in a SIM Card from another carrier that isn't one of Koodo's family of carriers such as Telus or public mobile and it will ask for that code. Enter the code and it will say the phone is now unlocked and away you go.
If the person you want to give the phone to is on Telus, Koodo or public mobile then you do not need to unlock the phone for them to use it.

Also keep in mind that you may be able to find a cheaper unlock code at a website like Gsmliberty.com or Cellunlocker.Net
You could also check eBay there's usually really cheap unlockers there.

Generally speaking, unless it's an iPhone, the unlock code will be a lot cheaper. Prices vary by the OEM.

I just unlocked via Cellunlocker.net. It was quick and cost $20. Thanks again, Paul Deschamps.
