Today I got new iPhone 5 from my friend and I did apply prepaid SIM of Koodo for starting my iPhone. but It can't be activated and it said it's not a hardware issue with iPhone. I already paid, set up my self serve account and create my phone number. I don't know what the problem is.

What error shows when you insert the SIM?

The phone is factory reset, so after I chose the language and country and when I connect with the wifi, it shows "SIM Not Supported"

That means the iphone is locked to another carrier.  Where did your friend get this iphone from?

You friend may need to unlock this phone for you from their carrier.  The cost is around $50 to do it from a carrier (depending on the carrier)

Is the iPhone you have unlocked or locked with Koodo?

Each phone is either locked so that you can only use it with a certain carrier or unlocked so you can use it with all carriers. Where was the phone originally bought?
