I have an iPhone SE and my plan includes international texting.  I'm in Ontario.

Hi there!

When you are texting, are you putting 011 + Country Code first?

I'm on the LTE system and was told to put the country code (+61) in front of the number.  Using 011 + the country code didn't work either. :(

+61 7 xxxx xxxx is that the format you are using to text out?

Btw, the error message I get is 468-5 "You've entered an incorrect number."

I'm using +61 xxx xxx xxx as per advice from 2 Koodo stores.

  • 011+ country code + region code + the recipient's number
is that the way you are doing so?

Both stores said that I should not use the 011 because I'm on the LTE system.  And using the 011 hasn't worked.

If you tried both ways, using 011 and without it and still does not work, tried to power cycle your phone, and re-try again.

If still does not work, but you are able to text within Canada or any other country, maybe your Friend's carrier in Australia does not have an agreement with Koodo.

Thanks, Camilo.  If I use 011 does it need a "+" in front of it?  In store, I was told that using the country code and a plus sign was the way to do it (+61 and the number).

As far as I know, the only countries that do not need the 011 in front are the countries under the North American Numbering Plan, Australia obviously is not one of those, so we need the 011 in front...

But to be sure, at the end we don't lose anything, that is what I said to try both ways... So at this point, as I said, if you are able to text within Canada, if you are able to text another country, then probably your friend's carrier has no agreement with Koodo...

Could you try someone else? another friend?

Hi Bev,
Have you successfully  texted to another country, other than Australia? and the recipient was a cell phone number with no text blocking on their side?

Also, can you call that number? (just ring, no need to wait for them to pick up)

The tech in-store texted to another country (not sure which) and it worked.  Have not tried calling my friend yet.

Try calling your friend, but don't let him answer the phone or don't go to the voicemail or you will get charged for a long distance call. If the call goes through, then we know it's not the number that's the problem.

Try getting your friend to text you and you reply to your friend's text

Thanks for the suggestion, Dennis.  I have tried responding to my friend's text (that I receive) and mine aren't delivered when sent.

This is gonna be tricky now.  Either it is koodo's issue or your friend's carrier's issue regarding why the text is not being sent/received.

You will need to contact Koodo and a tech will need to investigate.  They will likely blame the Australian carrier for the issue.  Your friend will need to do the same thing and their carrier will likely blame Koodo.
If this is important to you, then by all means contact Koodo to start the process to look into it.

If this is not important, I recommend using a "data based" messaging app like whatsapp, facebook messenger, etc
