The nexus 4 seems to be better spec-wise but It has a fairly weak battery.
I say go for moto g since it is an awesome android device and cheaper than both the desire and N4. The only drawback of the moto is the internal storage however if it is good enough for you definitely consider the MOTO G. :)

It depends what matters most to you. The HTC Desire has a feature called Boomsound and the stereo is amazing. If you love listening to music or you value a crisp sound and display. I recommend the HTC Desire. Plus, it has a micro SD slot, you can add more music and videos.

If you travel alot worldwide and you are sick of roaming charges, the Nexus 4 will be the best for you because they come unlocked. It does not have a external microSD slot and you will have to keep deleting stuff if you are close to running out of space.

That doesnt really work, I imagine it would be slow?

Slow or not, the speed is more than sufficient to watch movies/listen to music off the USB OTG adapter. I use one with my MotoG and it does work as intended! Your flash device needs to be formatted in FAT32 (or anything EXT (linux) if you use custom ROMs).

Probably for techy customers who can flash their flash drives to FAT32 but for ordinary people, this would be a hassle. I still recommend the HTC Desire because it has boom sound (beat that MOTO G), a very easy to use and install external MicroSD card.

Really Erwin? Formatting a drive to FAT32 is "a hassle" ? My god have the times changed...

I travel to the US occasionally. My husband has a Nexus 4 and really loves it. The only thing that concerns me is not having an external micro SD slot. :(

Then get the Desire 601. Sense is a very nice Android skin, actually one of my favourites.

Is there a specific reason you want to have an SD Card or just to add more storage for pics, videos & music? (apps and games can't be added to SD Card anymore)

Some can. Anything that needs to run in the background cannot be moved to external SD, but those without can.

There's no option to move apps to SD as of 4.1 or 4.0.4 which both these run newer software than that even. The only devices that have it are some foreign devices and the Galaxy S4, all other mainstream devices don't have the option for any apps unless you root.

I'd vote for the HTC. The N4 is nice on paper, but I've been disappointed by its battery life and camera. It also seems to be a lot more fragile than most phones.

I'm not. Compared to my Nexus S the battery lasts at least twice as long, if not longer.

After it got 4.3 battery life was increased quite a bit and 4.4 made battery life even better to the point it's not really an issue like when it first released.
