You need to be 18 years of age to do a credit check, however you can activate a prepaid phone, with no credit check.

Depending on the province it's either 19 or 18 years of age.

Basically the age-of-majority, so if you can drink legally you can activate an account.

Just don't do both at the same time. That's the source of many an awkward situation.
